How did this patient hear about Water’s Edge: Team at Mather Hospital

Details of Experience:
It was just an average day when Alexander was found on the floor of his bathroom, experiencing weakness, confusion, and disorientation. While Alex had been prone to falls recently, this one was particularly concerning to his loved ones. He made his way to Mather Hospital for evaluation and was admitted there.

Following his stay at the hospital, Mr. K. was recommended to go to a subacute rehabilitation center in hopes to give him the skills and strength he needs to return his prior level of function and decrease his fall risk. Mather Hospital’s team recommended he be admitted to Water’s Edge for continued skilled care. Alex had strong family support during this time, and he was ready to put the work in to get him where he needed to be.

Alex participated in physical and occupational therapy five times per week at Water’s Edge. With the help of his Physical Therapist, Jayne, he worked on progressive resistance exercises, open-chain kinetic exercises, closed chain kinetic exercises, therapeutic exercises to facilitate independence in self-care tasks and therapeutic exercises to facilitate independence in mobility tasks. Alex also worked with his Occupational Therapist, Rebecca, on facilitating independence in clothing management, reaching for items from the dresser, and bed making. They worked together on dynamic balance activities while standing to improve safety with the functional activity of daily life tasks including sweeping, bed making, and item retrieval. They also practiced dynamic balance activities during sitting to improve safety with donning socks and shoes and bending to increase dynamic balance skills and placement of objects out of reach to increase performance.

After spending 21 days in Water’s Edge’s skilled care, Alex was ready to discharge home. He had regained his strength and learned many techniques to prevent future falls. Water’s Edge wants to congratulate Alex on his accomplishment and wish him nothing less than the best in all his future endeavors.
